  • For Homes with Central Heat and Air:
    • Winter:
      • Preheat your home prior to the Peak Time Period then lower the temperature so the unit does not run during the Peak Time Period
      • Limit the use of portable space heaters during the Peak Time Period
    • Summer:
      • Precool your home prior to the Peak Time Period then raise the temperature so the unit does not run during the Peak Time Period
  • Limit hot water use during the Peak Time Period:
    • Take showers during Off Peak times when possible
    • Wash clothes/dishes during Off Peak times when possible
    • Use blackout curtains, this can block the heat/cool from entering into your home
  • Dry clothes during Off Peak times when possible
  • Bake/Cook meals during Off Peak times or use microwave/slow cookers minimal stove top
  • Replace the most often used lights in your home with LED bulbs to reduce overall use
  • Perform routine maintenance in the home:
    • Clean Refrigerator/Freezer coils annual to ensure efficient operation
    • Properly maintain dryer vent to ensure it closes when not in use (This may require manually cleaning of the vent piping)
    • Ensure door seals are in good shape
    • Ensure attic penetrations are well sealed
    • Close the flue damper in fireplace when not in use
    • Change HVAC filters monthly

Yes. Based on your ability to shift your energy use away from the peak time, you can save money. This does require a change in habits to achieve maximum savings.

2. What are the rates and times they apply?

Summer Peak months are April - October

  • Peak Time is 3:00 pm - 7:00 pm
    • Peak Rate is 29.7 ¢ kWh
    • Off Peak Rate is 7.41 ¢ kWh

Winter Peak months are November - March

  • Winter Peak Time is 6:00 – 9:00 am

3. When are the “peak times”?

Summer Peak months are April - October.

4. How do I know if the TOD rate will benefit me?

Use the Time of Day Calculator in Smart Hub to see potential savings. This tool will analyze at you last 12 months usage to let you know if you have the potential to save and how much. If you are not sure, we recommend a trial period of shifting power before signing up. You can follow your usage changes on SmartHub to see if and how much of a benefit it can provide you.

6. Is there a special meter to measure and record my usage for the TOD rate?

No. The meter installed on your home is already providing half hour data. Our powerline carried communication system makes the Time of Day rate possible.

7. What will it cost me to go on TOD rate?

There is no separate charge for going on TOD. However applicable rates do apply, so your use during the defined peak times will be more expensive than off peak times.

8. Can I switch between TOD and regular monthly rate?

If you choose to move to the Time of Day rate, you are asked to stay on the rate for a full year and will asked to sign an agreement.
